The massive ‘mother of all bombs’ dropped from US cargo plane on a ISIS tunnel complex on Thursday has killed 90 Islamic State militants, officials in Afghanistan confirmed.
Spokespersons from US and Afghan side say there have been no civilian casualties.
Dawlat Waziri, an Afghan ministry official said “No civilian has been hurt and only the base, which Daesh(ISIS affiliate) used to launch attacks in other parts of the province, was destroyed.”
The bombing comes closely after US president Trump relaxed reins on US military in their fight against ISIS and described it as ‘another very very successful mission by US military”.
Thursday’s strike was the first time the largest non-nuclear bomb was put to combat use , though it ran tests in 2003. The bomb not a deep-earth penetrator but has an explosive yield of more than 11 tons of TNT. It was dropped to target what US military describes as a “cave series” used by ISIS’s Afghanistan affiliate.
