Hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s arrival in U S, President Donald Trump declared Hizbul Mujahideen(HM) Chief Syed Salahuddin as global terrorist.
The move would mean US will prohibit its citizens from having any kind of engagement with Salahuddin and block all his properties and assets in US jurisdiction.
In a statement US state department said “Under Salahuddin’s tenure as senior HM leader, the outfit has claimed responsibility for several attacks, including April 2014 attack in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, which injured 17 people.”
The Indian External Affairs Ministry responded by saying “India welcomes this notification. It underlines that both India and US faces threat of terrorism”
Salahuddin last year declared he would block any peaceful resolution to Kashmir conflict. When former Hizbul leader Burhan Wani was killed by Indian army, he hailed Burhan as a martyr and promised to turn Kashmir valley “into graveyard for Indian forces.”
Backed by Pakistani govt., he had threatened nuclear war against India over Kashmir issue.
