KAYAMKULAM : Chennai Mail survived a near-fatal sabotage bid on Saturday at 8 pm, when it shattered a signal box weighing over 80 kg placed on the its route along tracks at Kayamkulam.
There was a deafening bang as the train ran over the box made of cast iron and the loco pilot stopped the train immediately.
According to experts, the set was dismantled before laying it on the tracks, reinforcing suspicion of derailment attempt.
Officials from the maintenance department said, it was not possible to have carried out the whole thing single-handedly and they are looking up clues to a possible gang at work.
Meanwhile Railway confirmed that nobody has been hurt.
