M Vincent, the Kovalam MLA, has been removed from all party positions following his remand into judicial custody pertaining to allegations of sexual assault on a 51-year-old mother of two, from his neighbourhood.
Various quarters have raised demands to oust the MLA from his formal post following the sensational news breakout, however Vincent has substantial backing from his partymen with Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president MM Hassan insisting that the whole thing is a conspiracy.
Other leaders too voiced their support saying, there is no hurry for Vincent to resign from his post as MLA, since allegations have not been proved.
Not withstanding the overwhelming in-house support however, KPCC has decided to pull back all party positions held by him for the time-being.
The woman who overdosed on sleeping pills on 19 July in a suicide bid, told the probe team that Vincent repeatedly assaulted her sexually over past one year and harassed her with obscene phone calls that exceeded 900 in past five months as per cyber cell tracking.
The woman was subject to medical examination and the investigation head, Sub Inspector Prassala, says there is scientific evidence to back the allegation.
The alleged victim claims she had mentioned the rape instances to a nun , a priest and her brother.
Vincent has been charged with abetting suicide and sexual exploitation.
