Mumbai Building Collapse : Shiv Sena leader arrested for illegal repairs in ground floor
In the tragedy where 17 persons, including 11 women died on Tuesday morning when four-storied residential building collapsed in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, the police have arrested Shiv Sena leader Sunil Ramesh Shitap for having carried out illegal structural alterations in the ground floor.
Sunil owns three flats in the ground floor and resorted to pulling down RCC , pillars and walls to create a spacious hall for the nursing home he operates there.
Meanwhile, according to officials, the building figures on the list of endangered structures and people were six months back notified to vacate. 11 persons rescued by Bombay Municipal Corporation’s (BMC)Disaster wing are undergoing treatment in various hospitals.
Two firemen suffered suffocation when a gas pipe in the collapsed structure broke into flames.
The rescue brigade included Mumbai Fire Force, BMC Rescue teams, NDRF and SDRF teams who used 14 fire engines, rescue vans, ambulances, JCB’s and metal cutters
