Centre mulling to admit girls into Sainik Schools, NDA

New Delhi : The Centre will consider taking in girls to Sainik Schools and the National Defence Academy(NDA) , Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre said on Friday.

The suggestion originated from the Parliamentary Standing committee and there have been several Public Interest Litigations seeking the change, he said during Question Hour in Lok Sabha today.

There are 26 Sainik Schools presently and 21 in pipeline in various stages of approval.

Sainik schools are established and managed by Sainik Schools Society under the Defence Ministry.

The concept of Sainik Schools was mooted by then Defence Minister VK Krishna Menon to reify regional and class imbalance among officers of the armed forces and groom students for admission into NDA.
