Fresh allegations against Shylaja

Thiruvananthapuram :

Congress-led opposition continued  its agitation demanding Health Minister and Social Welfare Minister KK Shylaja’s resignation for alleged nepotism and misuse of power to effect appointments to key govt posts in Health portfolio.

The Assembly session on Thursday began with slogans and pledge to intensify agitation until Shylaja gave in.

Yesterday, the opposition had stormed out of the Assembly and  the speaker today contended that it was improper to create a furore  every other day.

Meanwhile, fresh allegations surfaced as a group of doctors alleged the Minister’s interference in the appointment of Indian Medical Council(IMC) member.

The doctors had reportedly submitted a list of three expert doctors towards selection, however Shylaja ignored the list and recommended Dr. Rani Bhaskaran to the post, they alleged.

Rani is the current president of Travancore-Cochin Medical Council and according to sources, files have been moved to re-appoint her as IMC member on expiry of her present term.

Another allegation against Shylaja relates to interference in appointment of former Health Director Dr. PK Jameela, wife of Minister AK Balan as consultant of Ardram Mission.

Shylaja faced High Court chide on Wednesday when it said, the minister was answerable as to how she appointed a person involved in a criminal case as member of the State Child Rights Commission and Kerala health Research and Welfare Society(KHWRS)
