Crackdown on “Sheikh Marriage” Racket continues, 4 more arrested

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Police on Tuesday busted a  “sheikh marriage” racket where a “Qazi” performs hurried marriage rituals to offer minors to visiting Sheikhs from Gulf.

After the brief ‘ honeymoon’ most of them are pushed into the flesh racket.

Three Oman nationals and a Qazi has been arrested in the raid..

Two among them will be deported owing to lack of  concrete evidence, the police said.

“We shall deporting two persons as there isn’t enough evidence to book them under criminal charges,” the DCP Satyanarayan said.

Earlier this week, the police busted a major ‘sheikh’ marriage racket wherein twenty people, including five Omani nationals, three Qatar nationals and 13 Indians were taken into custody. The arrested Indians include three Qazis, brokers, and lodge owners.

The series of raids began after probe into an an investigation of the incident where a 16-year old girl  was married to an Omani sheikh in May.
