Mumbai : Tom Alter, best known for portraying British man in Hindi films, died after battling stage four skin cancer aged 67.
“It is with sadness we announce the death of Tom, actor , writer, director Padma Shri and our dear husband and father.” read a statement issued on behalf of his family.
The disease was treated and near-cured before it emerged again.
Tom left hospital on Thursday and died Friday night.
Son of American Chirstian missionaries of English and Scottish ancestry, Tom was born in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand and lived for most part of his life in Mumbai.
President Kovind Ram Nath tweeted “Sad to hear of demise of veteran actor Tom Alter. He will be remembered by film lovers”
Tom Alter was conferred Padma Shri for his contribution to Indian films and theatre.
