Thiruvananthapuram : Chief Minister today announced at a press conference on Wednesday that state govt will initiate vigilance probe against former chief minister Oomen Chandy in the Solar scam.
The decision is based on findings of Solar Commission that looked into the Rs. 70 million scandal after reports emerged that CM’s office had close ties with a couple who duped several businessmen, by accepting huge sums by falsely promising Solar installations.
A criminal case will be filed against former home minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan for helping the accused and former minister Aryadan Muhammed too will face criminal charges apart from Thampanoor Ravi and Benny Behhanan.
Pinarayi told media that UDF govt teamed up with fraudsters to dupe several people and that Chandy and his former office are equally responsible.
Saritha S Nair, core person to Team Solar, had floated a solar company after bribing former CM’s staff Jikkumon Joseph, Tenny Joppen, Salim Raj and Kuruvilla. Case under Prevention of Corruption Act will be invoked towards the incident, the minister added.
Disclosing Commission findings, CM said that the accused politicians have accepted huge amounts in bribe from Saritha. The Special Investigation Team(SIT) which was constituted to probe Solar, ignored important documents in a bid to protect Chandy, Pinarayi said.
Action will be taken against SIT officials for the irregularity, he added.
Chandy, the minister said, had accepted bribe directly and indirectly. Thiruvanchoor attempted to influence investigators to prevent Chandy and others from facing criminal proceedings, Pinarayi said.
Aryadan too is mired in bribes to offer Team Solar support back then, he said.
Thampanoor Ravi and Behanan will face charges for their role in destroying evidences, the CM said.
Though Saritha alleged sexual abuse at hands of several names involved in the case including Chandy, the previous SIT did not look into those charges, the commission report said.
The report also recommends department-level action against IG Padmakumar and DySP Harikrishnann. A criminal case will also be registerd against Police Association Secretary GR Ajith for accepting Rs. 20 lakh in bribe, Pinarayi concluded.
DGP Rajesh Dewan will head the new SIT which will look into all aspects of the scam afresh.
Rape charges will be slapped against those accused by Saritha in her letter.
