Cargo ship sinks, 11 Indian crew missing : Philippines

Eleven Indian crew members are missing after their cargo ship sank in the Pacific off Philippines today, 14 Oct.

A typhoon churned in the region, said Japans’ coastguard dept.

Emerald Star, the 33,205-tonne vessel with 26 Indians on board relayed a distress signal early morning from some 280 km east of northern tip of Philippines, Japanese coastguard, who  received the signal, said.

 “We have dispatched two patrol boats and three planes to the site but a typhoon has made the rescue difficult” they added.

16 Indian members have been rescued while 11 are still missing.
