Family of sunken ship’s Captain hopeful; Search on

New Delhi  :  Search for 10 Indians missing  aboard cargo ship Emerald Star, that sank in the Pacific off Philippines on 14 Oct, continues, the External Ministry said.

At the time of tragedy, a typhoon churned in the region, making rescue operation difficult.

Patrol boats, planes and additional coast guard force is surveying the zone hoping to find the missing members.

Family of the ship’s captain, Rajesh Nair – a native of Kodungallur – expressed optimism about his return.

Rajesh’s family lives in Mumbai and he visited home in May.

The 33,205-tonne vessel with 26 Indians on board left Indonesia on Oct 8 and he had e-Mailed his family saying the ship sails for China cost on Oct 17 and that he would return home in December.

The Hong Kong-registered ship  relayed a distress signal early morning on the fateful day before it sank some 600 km south of Ishigaki Island of Okinawa on Friday.

11 crew members were rescued by Xiamen registered ship Densa Cobra and five more by Philippines-registered Samarinda

Those missing include Captain Rajesh Nair, Second Officer Rahul Kumar,  Third Officer Subramaniam Giridhar Kumar, Chief Engineer Rajpur Shyam Singh, Fourth Rngineer Subbiah Suresh kumar, Junior Engineer Chauhan Ashok Kumar, Perumalsamy Gurumurthy, Malavaranan Silambarasan, Murgan Gowtham and Bevin Thomas.
