The father of 3-year-old Indian child Sherin, whose body was found under a culvert in a multi-agency search, has changed his story that he saw her choking on milk and dying following which he moved the child’s body away from their home.
Earlier, Mathews ,37,had told police that his adopted daughter Sherin wne missing after he stood her outside their house at 3 am as a punishment for refusing to drink milk.
He said, he was with Sherin in garage trying to get her to drink her milk. At first, she didn’t listen, but eventually started to with his help.
“She then began to choke,” read Mathews affidavit. “She was couphing and and her breathing slowed. The he could no longer feel her pulse and believed she had died.”
Mathews is being held for causing felony injury to a child which carries maximum penalty of life in prison.
Mathews and his wife have a four-year-old biological daughter, who has now been placed under foster care.
The cause of death has not been revealed by the probe agency . Investigations are underway to establish the motive .
