Govt to increase pension of erstwhile royals

Thiruvanthapuram: Ruling LDF govt in its cabinet meeting on Wednesday decided to raise pension of  royals who ruled erstwhile princely states in the pre-independence era.

A hike of Rs. 3000 pm has been the consensus in the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Apart from rulers, the family members of past rulers also become eligible for pension, a statement issue in lieu of the decisions read.

Another move mooted at the meeting was to assign 3.24 hectares of land on lease to Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited(BPCL) for setting up a skill development institute at Ettumanur.

The land presently lies in custody of local Industrial Training Institute.
The lease period will be for 30 years.
