Puducherry: With rising number of incidents reported where vehicles get registered under fake Puducherry addresses to avail tax difference, the Union Territory administration has decided to tighten rules.
Puducherry Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi has asked Motor Vehicles Dept to ensure that only permanent citizens who come under five RTO’s may have their vehicles registered.
The addresses should be verified for authenticity, the circular read.
It was recently found how several car buyers including celebrities Amala Paul and Fahad Faasil had their luxury vehicles registered under Puducherry based fake addresses to evade road tax.
The issue caught on in media debates widely prompting the current move.
Meanwhile Kerala Motor Vehicle department has served notices to Amala Paul and Koduvally Municipal Councilor Karat Faisal to appear with relevant documents.
