Speedier Police Response to Torture of Elderly; Separate Register
Thiruvananthapuram: Police stations in the State will now maintain a separate for the elderly and list complaints related to physical and mental torture of elderly people for taking the matter on priority basis.
State DGP Loknath Behera has issued strict directive to District chiefs in this regard.
The register would contain complete details of the elderly people living under a station limit. Data will be collected through door-to-door visits, as part of Janamaithri to ensure first-handedness.
The register will be open to public.
Officers of Police Sub-Division rank should visit stations to inspect the register and initiate action against authorities who fail to maintain or update the register.
The present move comes based on guidelines issued in 2007 and 2009 by centre and State governments for the welfare of senior citizens and elderly parents.
