Jisha Murder : Ameer ul Islam guilty, Sentencing today

Kochi : The Ernakulam Sessions Court  on Tuesday found 23-year-old Ameerul Islam guilty of brutally murdering 30-year-old law student Jisha, enraged by her resistance to his advances on the fatal day.

On 28 April 2016, her mother Rajeshwari found Jisha lying dead in a pool of blood from with gruesome injuries to her body including private parts.

Investigations that failed to identify the culprit amid huge public outcry had caused police top brass his post shuffled. Under the helm of next officer ADGP Sandhya, Ameerul Islam was nabbed tracking his disappearance from the area after the incident.

The trial took 85 days comprising 290 documents and 36 material evidence with DNA found in saliva on Jisha’s body and blood at her door step that matched the accused, proving crucial to deciding guilt. The case otherwise, was only circumstantial.

The accused however, was not guilty under 201 (destroying evidence) and various sections under SC/ST(prevention of atrocities) amendment Act 2015.

Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court judge N Anil Kumar will pronounce quantum of punishment today.
