Rahul Gandhi to Take Over Charge as Cong President Today

New Delhi : Congress president-elect Rahul Gandhi will take over as Congress chief today, replacing his mother Sonia Gandhi in a generational shift in the top notch of India’s oldest political party.

Rahul, who has been viewed largely as a reluctant politician was elected chief after no one else from the party charged him in the internal ballot.

Incidentally, this was the first time that Rahul led party’s campaign from the front during Gujarat election. He spent several weeks in Gujarat reportedly to put off his promotion because he didn’t want distraction during crucial state elections.

Rahul already seemed to have taken charge after he decided to suspend Gandhi family loyalist, Mani Shankar Aiyar, for his “neech aadmi” comment against PM Narendra Modi.

There are speculations of Sonia’s role as she speaks of ‘time to retire’ with majority expecting her to continue to head the Congress Parliamentary Party.

But more most parts finally, Rahul would seemingly have a free hand.
