Dinakaran Winning Jaya’s Seat May Spark Fresh AIADMK Realignment
Chennai : TTV Dinakaran’s victory as an independent in RK Nagar bypoll mopping up more than 50% of the votes will now, according to political gurus, will reshape dynamics of the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK) in Tamil Nadu.
Dinakaran faction claims that “the real AIDADMK cadres” are on its side as reflected in RK Nagar bypolls.
“People have opted for Dinakaran, seeing him as Jayalalthiaa’s heir. The results are a slap on the AIDADMK’s face,: said Thol, leader of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi(VCK) that supported the opposition Dravida Munnetra Khazhagam(DMK).
Meanwhile DMK’s lack-lustre performance in RK Nagar bypoll, despite AIDMK infighting, is seen as a big negative for the party which was backed by Congress.
Left parties, VCK, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and other small parties. The DMK’s N Mardhu Ganesh polled just 24,651 votes.
The bypoll was largely viewed as litmus stest for Stalin, who took charge as KMK president after M Karunanidhi took to back seat owing to health issues.
“One byelection cannot be concluded as state of all 234 constituencies in the state. Yet, it is a very strong message for us. If this AIDADMK govt falls and there is an Assembly election, DMK has an advantage,” said a DMK veteran.
Election Commission(EC) meanwhile claimed RK Nagar bypoll as the costliest ever in the country with heavy security deployment and surveillance team.
Interestingly, there are reports that money has been used on large scale to influence voters and it put EC in a tight spot. EC had cancelled RK Nagar bypoll in April over such allegation, but did not anything this time around, claim experts.
“It is a Himalayan defeat for EC, not DMK,” claimed Stalin.
