Junior doctors withdraw strike, Bond period reduced, More posts

Thiruvananthapuram : Following talks with Health Secretary Rajiv Sadanadan on Monday, junior doctors protesting over bond period have called off their strike.

The govt, the Health Secretary informed, has decided to reduce bond stints where those completing PG will have to serve only six months of bond instead of the earlier one year. Also bond period for super specialty will be reduced to one year from previous three year time.

The govt has also agreed to create additional posts as demanded by striking doctors.

According to govt sources, junior doctors have called off agitation after mutually agreement on revised bond period.

However a group of doctors plan to stay with the agitation claiming that govt has not mentioned anything new.

The earlier round of talks with Health Minister KK Shailja had failed following with the Health Secretary intervened with conciliation talks.

The backdrop
The junior doctors under the banner of Kerala Medicos Joint Action Council had launched their indefinite agitation from Wednesday, disrupting services in medical college hospitals.

They demanded withdrawal of decision to raise pension age of doctors, creation of more posts, reducing validity period of bonds they are required to sign and creation of more promotion avenues.
