Four J&K cops killed in blast, Mehbooba condemns the attack


Four police officers were killed and two others injured in a massive improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore.

The device detonated when a police vehicle ran over the IED planted in its way.

Three shops too were damaged in the incident.

The deceased were identified as ASI IRshad Ahmad from Doda, Muhammad Amin from Kupwara and Ghulam Nabi from Sopore.

The injured have been shifted to the hospital.

In response to the shutdown called by separatists on Saturday, thee was  heavy police and paramilitary deployment in Sopore at the time when the explosion took place.

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbhooba Mufti condemned the attack in and tweeted “Pained to hear that four policemen have been killed in an IED explosion in Sopore. My deepest condolences to their families.”.

The incident comes just days after two heavily armed militants stormed a CRPF camp in Pulwama district killing a personnel and leaving two others injured.
