New Delhi : 17 people, including 10 women, died as a major fire in a firecracker warehouse ripped through the two-storey building inDelhi’s Bawana Industrial Area on Saturday.
The blaze that started in the ground floor soon engulfed the houses above.
10 fire tenders rushed to spot around 6.20 to douse the fire.
“Three bodies were recovered from the ground floor, 13 from the first and one in the basement,” said GC Mishra, Director, Delhi Fire Service.
Two workers who jumped off the terrace during fire have sustained injuries including fracture.
Meanwhile, the police have apprehended a man, Manoj Jain, who said he took the factory premises on rent to run the unit. Initially he claimed her partnered with one Lalit Goel in the venture, but later said he ran the setup alone.
The police have registered an FIR under sections relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder and negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible material.
The Kejriwal-led Delhi govt has ordered an inquiry into the blaze.
