Thiruvananthapuram : DGP Nirmal Chandra Asthana is the new Director of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau(VACB).
The move follows the controversial appointment of state DGP as the Vigilance head without seeking approval or informing the Centre.
Also, the High Court pulled up this govt several times for not appointing a DGP with independent charge for its Vigilance .
With the new appointment, state DGP Loknath Behera stands relieved from his additional charge.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today signed the order appointing Asthana.
The New Chief
Asthana was on central deputation and appointed as the Special Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs in March 2017.
The 1986 IPS batch officer has also served as Inspector General of CRPF.
Basically a nuclear physicist, Asthana has a brilliant academic record and has authored several books including one on internal security.
