India surpasses China; Becomes fastest growing economy, GDP 7.2 pc

Mumbai : India regained its title as world’s fastest –growing economy in October-December quarter, surpassing China after a gap of one year led by its manufacturing and service sector.

According to govt data released on Wednesday the country’s GDP grew 7.2 percent in the Oct-Dec quarter, its fastest pace in five quarters.

Earlier a Reuters poll of more than 35 economists estimated the economy to grow 6.9 per cent in the Oct-Dec quarter.

China recorded a growth of just 6.8 per cent for the same quarter.
