Unnao Rape Case : BJP MLA’ Brother Arrested Over Death of Victim’s Father

Crime Branch officials in Uttar Pradesh today arrested Atul Sengar, the brother of BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, for allegedly beating up the father of a woman who accused the MLA of rape.

The woman’s father was earlier arrested by police in relation to an assault case and died in police custody yesterday.

Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law and Order) however denied speculation saying the victim’s father “did not die in police custody”.

“We have proof of Atul Sengar’s involment and that’s why he has been arrested,” he added.

The case has put Yogi Adityanath govt in a tight spot especially after the woman and her family on Sunday attempted suicide outside CM’s residence in Lucknow.

The woman had alleged MLA’s goons thrashed her father to get him to withdraw the rape case.

The police maintains that the father was injured in an altercation with some locals and registered cross-complaints in the matter following which they arrested him.

On Sunday evening, the woman’s father complained of stomach ache and was admitted to the district hospital, where he died.

The police are awaiting post-mortem report to determine cause of death.
