300 Dalits Embrace Buddhism To Escape Discrimination : Gujarat

Around 300 Dalits of Mota Samdhiya village in Una Taluk of Gujarat have converted to Buddhism i to escape and protest discrimination meted out to the Dalit community.

Those who converted include members of the community who were flogged and paraded half-naked through Una town in July 2016 by cow vigilantes, alleged for skinning dead cattle.

Around 300 forms with credentials of those aspiring to convert were handed over to the district administration.

A function to seek open consent has been organized at Mota Samdiya village on Sunday to mark Budh Purnima and is expected to take the numbers higher.
