The Supreme court today dismissed a petition filed by Uttar Pradesh resident Sunll Singh seeking an independent probe into the “mysterious” death of Bollywood actress Sridevi.
Incidentally, Sunil was on a family vacation in Dubai on the day the death occurred.
“There is no way 5-feet 7-inch person can drown in a 5-feet 1-inch bathtub. There is some mystery in it. It needs to be probed. This country wants to know what happened in the Dubai hotel. She is a celebrity my lord” Senior advocate Vikas Singh representing the petitioner argued.
The lawyer further said even if Dubai police says there is no foul play, this court can order a fresh probe under Section 188 CrPC.
A smiling Chief Justice Dipak Misra was however in no mood for action and said “No we are sorry”.
Sunil’s petition was earlier rejected by Delhi High court on March 9 where the bench said authorities in India and Dubai have looked into the incident.
Actress Sridevi was in Dubai on a family wedding when her husband discovered her dead in the hotel’s bathroom on February 24, 2018.
While it was first though to be death from cardiac arrest, Dubai prosecution took over the case and concluded it to be a case of accidental drowning.
