The Madhya Pradesh government has made it mandatory for students to respond with “Jai Hind” instead of traditional “Yes teacher” or “Yes Sir” replies when called on roll.
The practice, the state education board said, will help to instill patriotism.
The idea was first introduced tentatively in Satna district in October last year.
The govt has issued the rule to 1.22 lakh government schools and advisory to private schools as well.
Congress leader KK Mishra criticized the directive saying “We cannot force patriotism. There is no need to make it compulsory”.
Meanwhile BJP spokesperson Rahul Kothari said “It’s a great initiative for instilling patriotism among students. We should look upon this in a positive manner”, he added.
