Game Over : Yddyurappa To Take Oath Shortly
In a rare post-midnight hearing, the Supreme Court observed that BJP’s ministerial candidate BS Yeddurappa can be sworn in at Raj Bhavan shortly.
The top court was moved by petition submitted by Congress-Janata Dal Secular combine against Governor Vajubhai Vala for inviting Yeddyurappa to form the next govt in Karnataka.
“As far as swearing-in is concerned, we are not restraining it, but we are making it subject to the outcome of the case,” a three-judge bench, comprising Justices AK Sikri, SA Bobde and Ashok Bhushan, said after the all-right hearing that stretched for three-and-a-half hours.
BJP has been given 15 days to present its majority.
The Supreme court will resume hearing the case Friday morning 10.30 and has ordered BJP to produce the letters submitted by Yedyurappa to the governor by then.
The Congress –JDS combine with 116votes (78 + 38) had governor yesterday saying they have far greater seats and should be allowed to form the govt.
BJP with 104 constituencies fell short of 8 needed for simple majority in the 222-seats Karnataka elections.
