10 Lakh to Each of Lini’s Sons, Govt Job To Husband : State Cabinet

Thiruvananthapuram : The Kerala cabinet on Wednesday decided to give Rs. 10 lakh each of the sons left behind by Lini, the civil hospital nurse who died of Lipah of the deadly Lipah virus.

Lini contracted NiV Infection after attending a patient who affected by the deadly Nipah virus.

The Health Minister KK Shylaja also announced ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh to families of each who died of the virus.

“Lini was a dedicated nurse who was willing to take care of the patient. She lost her life after being infected from that service. So we have the responsibility to take care of her family. Majority of the deceased belong to middleclass and poor families. Hence the cabinet decided to grant Rs 5 lakh in aid to the affected families,” the minister said

Future of Lini’s children will also be cared for by the govt, she added.

Commenting on the medical progress, the minister said the National Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) is working in coordination with the state to contain the spread of the mysterious virus Nipah.
