Landslides in Kozhikode,Malappram, Wayanad; 3 Dead, Many Missing

Landslides struck at least three districts in the state leaving one dead and several missing.

Places where tragedy struck include Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad.

A nine-year-old and 2 other children died after being buried overnight  under the slide.

Kozhikode witnessed multiple landslides at Kakkayam, Puloorampara, Karinchola, Chamal and Omassery.

Several families have been evacuated in these areas.

Traffic on Kolzhikode – Kollegal national highway and several roads have been disrupted.

Disaster Rescue teams along with locals are engaged in retrieving those trapped under the slides.

Heavy Rains , Floods
Meanwhile heavy rains have swelled the rivers including Chalkudi, Iruvanji and Punnor which broke its embankments flooding adjoining places.

KSEB authorities opened all shutters of Peringalkutu dam  raising Chalakuddi river to height of 75 feet.

Schools Shut
The district collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions including professional colleges in Kozhikode.

PSC and university examinations however will be conducted as per schedule.
