Coalition Crashes, Governor Rule in Jammu Kashmir, Mehbooba Stunned

Srinagar : After BJP ended its alliance with Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday, 19 June Jammu and Kashmir has come under Governor’s rule, the fourth time in the last 10 years.

BJP said it was ‘untenable” to continue because of security concerns and rising terrorism. A stunned Mehbooba resigned shortly after BJP announcement that came afternoon on Tuesday.

Following the development governor NN Vohra recommended central rule to President Ram Nath Kovind, who was mid-air, on his way to Suriname when the report on break-up reached him.

When president landed around 3 am IST(6.30 pm local time) and approved imposing Governor’s rule there.

The Governor has called a security review meeting at 2.30 pm as an issue of priority after BJP expresses concerns about “deteriorating security situation” in the state.
