Pakistani Taliban Appoints New Chief After Leader’s Death

Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud has been named the new chief of Pakistani Taliban, after his predecessor Mullah Fazlullah was killed in a US-Afghan air strike in Afghanistan, the group’s spokesman said.

Fazlullah was killed on Jne 15 in a easter Afghan province of Kunar on Pakistan border.

US has remained sceptical of Pakistan’s restraint on militants while the latter constantly denied helping them.

Fazlullah died in a drone strike and this is the first time Taliban acknowledges his death.

The Pakistani Taliban have been trying to establish strict strain of Islamic rule in the country by decade-long insurgency.
