Kottayam : Jalandhar diocese’s claim of not being aware of nun’s complaint crumbled, after the alleged victim’s family showed evidences Jalandhar church team visiting the convent to collect evidence of the sexual assaults earlier.
The photos, now made public, shows Jalandhar diocese chancellor, congregation mother superior and mother general visiting the Kuravilangad convent reportedly to inquire with family members and convent inmates on the nun’s allegation of rape.
The team is said to have assured nun to resolve the issue by 30 June.
The nun’s relatives say they did not however inform Cardinal Mar George Alenchery about the incident.
Meanwhile police produced the nun before Changanassery magistrate where she gave secret testimony, a move largely seen as preventive to backtrack claimed assault.
The nun, whose identity cannot be revealed for legal reasons, in her complaint says Bishop Mullakal raped her at a guest house in Kuravilangad in Kottayam district first in May 2014 and later on 13 different occasions.
Incidentally, the nun works in an institution that functions under the diocese in Punjab and headed by Bishop Mullakal.
The nun approached the police early May following alleged inaction by church authorities.
