At least 11 workers were killed and more than eight others injured grievously when a massive fire broke out in a fire-cracker unit in Telangana’s Warangal town on Wednesday.
There were 19 workers and three customers at the time of explosions around 11 at noon today.
Ten died on the spot while 9 succumbed to burns at MGM hospital.
Five of the deceased were women. A child who was with his mother and had joined work only yesterday, too died in the accident. The woman has another child home.
Kumar, the owner of Bhadrakali Fireworks went into hiding after the incident. The unit is close to famous Enumamula market that houses wholesale market for chillies and cotton.
According to locals, the unit has 25 – 30 daily wagers. Of them, 19 turned up for work today. Another three persons came from Hyderabad for purchasing crackers.
The collector and top police officers visited the accident site soon after the news of fire broke.
