8 Rain-related Deaths in Past 48 Hours, CM Summons Urgent Meeting

As record rains continue to lash Kerala hard, deaths from heavy downpour in the state touched  eight in past two days.

Kottayam native Sivan(50) died from drowning in Maniyar river while  Kannur native Nani got swept away in flash floods.

Malappuram naïve Adhnan died from drowning in a pond in Malappuram.

Ernakulam native Tomy(55)  allegedly died from inability to get medical care in time owing to incessant rains.

In Wayanad, the body of a seven-year –old boy’s body was retrieved submerged in flooded water.

After a lull, the second phase of monsoons has killed 11 people since July 9 according to state control room that monitors rain-related incidents.

Severe water logging and flash floods has disrupted traffic and thrown life off gear in several parts of Kerala.

Alappuzha is one of the worst hit regions with dozens of houses submerged in water.

Around 2,000 families have been evacuated to 46 relief camps.

According to latest reports rains have triggered landslides in Ernakulam,Kottayam and Idukki.

Meanwhile Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan summoned a high-level meeting to take stock of the watery situation.
