Chennai : Former Chief Minister and DMK chief Karunanidhi has been shifted to hospital in early hours of Saturday following drop in blood pressure.

Following the news, crowds have gathered outside the hospital where the latest bulletin says the leader’s BP has been stabilised with medical intervention and his condition is being closely monitored.

The leader underwent tracheotomy earlier this month and was recuperating at home under hospital-level care comprising a team of medical and nursing staff present there.

The 94-year-old  has been ambulanced to Kauvery Hospital where he underwent the surgery.

Karunanidhi is the first leader to enter 50th year as president of a political party. He became Tamil Nadu’s CM in 1969 for the first time and has held the position five times the last in 2006,

The DMK patriarch retreated from active politics in 2016 after being diagnosed with a drug-induced disorder.
