Yogi recommends CBI probe into Deoria Shelter abuse

Uttar Pradesh : Yogi Adityanath Govt today recommended CBI investigation into the Deoria Shelter Home case where minor girls were allegedly subject to mistreatment and sexual abuse.

The Govt also constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to prevent any possible tampering of evidence.

Countering attack from opposition for Govt failure in terms of women’s safety, Chief minister Adityanath said that his Govt had shut down the home immediately on assuming power.

In chilling similarity to the Muzaffarpur shelter home case in Bihar, 24 girls were rescued from UP’s  Deoria shelter on 5 August after a girl who escaped told police they were sexually abused.

18 girls  are missing in the privately-run shelter which earlier received funds from the govt. The home’s affiliation to Women and Child Welfare Dept was cancelled last year after CBI reported irregularities in it’s functioning.
