Kolkata : In a face-off with Bengal Chief Minister, BJP chief Amit Shah declared “We are here to uproot Mamata Banerjee”.
Continuing the onslaught Shah said the National Register of Citizens was mishandled to protect Mamata’s vote bank.
The first draft of the National Register of Citizens(NRC) prepared in July left out 40 lakh people, triggering sharp criticism about the implementation of citizens list.
Shah told the well-attended public rally that TMC chief was against NRC for “vote-bank politics”.
“Why do you (Mamata) want to keep the Bangladeshi infiltrators ? You should make your stand clear,” he said referring to NRC bungling.
Alleging that the Bangladeshi infiltrators were vote bank of previous Communist and now that of TMC, Shah said “Rahul Gandhi and Mamata didi should clarify whether national security is important for them or vote bank. For the BJP, the country comes first.”
The BJP-led central govt brought the Citizen Amendment Bill 2016
The Bill seeks to amend Citizenship Act 1955 by providing citizenship to all illegal Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian migrants from Afghanisthan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
