CM announces Rs 4 – 10 lakh compensation for rain-related deaths, destruction

Kochi : Chief Minister Pinarayi Vaijayan announced Rs. 4 for those who lost homes, Rs. 6 lakh for those who lost land to mudslides and Rs. 10 lakh for those who lost both.

Also the kin of those killed in rain-related events would get Rs.  4 lakh in solatium, he added.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan was speaking at a evaluation meeting held in Wayanad’s Kalpetta, where he reached to take stock of flood situation.

Pinarayi reached Sulthan Bathery by 10 in the morning and travelled to Kalpetta by road. He met people at the relief camp functioning at Kalpetta Munderi school and later held the evaluation meeting.

As part of tour of flood-hit areas, the chief minister will leave for Calicut from Sulthan Batheri by helicopter.

Pinarayi is being accompanied by revenue minister E Chandrashekaran, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, Chief Secretary Tom Jose, DGP Loknath Behera, Revenue Dept Secreatary PH Kurien.

Much as they wished to visit dam eventful Idukki, the team cancelled the trip owing to adverse weather.
