Dams down shutters to help stranded jumbo back to forest : Athirapilly
Athirappilly : Locals in Athirappilly today spotted a wild elephant stranded amid flood waters there and reported the incident to Forest authorities.
The incident took place Monday morning near Charpa falls
Authorities quickly swung into action to help the elephant however, rising water appeared to have unnerved the beast and it refused to budge.
Forest officials then approached KSEB to down the shutters for the rescue. Water released from Peringalkuthu and Sholayar dams was responsible for Athirappilly flood.
The dams eventually closed for a while and the jumbo was first guided to the river banks before being persuaded back to the forest amid cheer from crowd that gathered at the spot.
