More Losses : KSRTC to cut bus services by 25 percent

Thiruvananthapuram : Debt ridden KSRTC will take 25 percent of its services off road after incurring huge losses in massive floods that  has overwhelmed the state.

According to sources, services on low income routes are being targeted for cancellation.

The state transporter explained how govt granted only Rs. 20 crore against Rs 95 crore required to meet ongoing crisis. Floods have added to the burden, an official said.

Faced with acute crunch, the transport company will not distribute festival allowance or bonus to its staff this time, the management said.

KSRTC presently owes Rs. 207 crore to tyre and oil companies.

The transport minister has meanwhile written to the chief minister seeking help in the issue.

In a state where public at large relies on bus services for travel, the move especially in Onam time will spell distress.
