US rap singer Mac Miller was found dead in his home in the Studio City neighbourhood, Los Angeles. Local media reported that he had died of an apparent overdose.
“He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans,” said his family in a statement, but declined to give further details.
Miller had been open about his struggle with substance abuse and was booked by Los Angeles police last month for crashing his car into a pole under influence of drugs.
Condolences and tributes poured in from the fraternity and big fan following on twitter.
Miller, born Malcolm James McCormick in Pittsburgh, released a number of mix tapes under the name EZ Mac.
His debut studio album, Blue Slide Park, was released in 2011. The album received poor reviews and Miller claimed that the criticism and resulting stress led him to developing an addiction to “purple drank”, a combination of codeine and promethazine.
