Malayali : Deported IS sympathiser from Afghanistan taken into custody

New Delhi : The NIA produced Nahsidul Hamzafar, an alleged Islamic State(IS) sympathiser in NIA court in Kochi, Kerala today.

The Malayali was deported from Afghanistan to India on Tuesday, soon after which NIA sleuths produced him before a Delhi court on Wednesday.

Nashidul left for Afghanistan along with 21 others to join IS there.Afghan security officials detained him for entering the country unlawfully.

During questioning he admitted wanting to join his associates in IS. Counter-terror agency then arrested Nashidul and flew him down to India.

This is the first time an alleged IS sympathiser from Afghanistan is being extradited into the country.

Nashidul is a Wayanad native and left India on 3 October, 2017. He is allegedly part of a larger conspiracy stemmed in Kasaragod, where his associates designed ways of joining and furthering IS aims.

At least 14 accused persons from Kasaragod left India to work places in Middle East between mid-May and early-July in 2016. This group later headed for Afghanistan and joined IS.

NIA sees the extradition as a big breakthrough into youth network based in the country to promote IS.
