Lie-detector test on Bishop likely; Mulakkal taken to convent to collect evidence
Kottayam : Investigators probing the infamous nun rape case is set to approach the court for permission to conduct a polygraph on the accused Bishop.
The move comes in the wake of Bishop Franco Mulakkal responding with “I don’t know” and “I don’t remember” to much of the interrogation sessions.
Meanwhile police indicated imminent arrests of persons involved in influencing witnesses against Bishop earlier. Fr James Erthayil is one such accused who tried to tamper with witness testimonies, by offering attractive benefits.
Bishop was taken to Kuravilangad convent this morning, Sunday, to collect evidence. The Bishop was taken into Guest Room no. 20 there, the place where 2 alleged rapes took place.
The remand allowed by the court expires on Monday noon.
The Case
The case pertains to a nun who accused the priest of repeatedly raping and subjecting her to unnatural sex between 2014 and 2016.
The nun approached the police after her complaint within the church ranks fell on deaf ears. The victim later along with four other nuns took too protesting with placards at High Court Junction demanding the bishop’s arrest.
