Palkkad : PU Chitra, the Malayali athlete, who won several gold medals for the country at 2016 and 2017 Asian championships, has finally been conferred with a government job.
Chitra collected the appointment order from DRM for Palakkad, accompanied by her father and coach Sajin.
Chitra specialises in 1500 m distance and has won gold at South Asian Games 2016, Asian Championships and a bronze at 2018 Asian Games.
Post the life changer, the young woman said she was happy to land the job, adding that, she will go to Bhubaneswar for National Open Athletic Championships on Tuesday to participated in the 1500-meter race on Wednesday.
Hailing from Palakkad, she is third of four children of Unnikrishnan and Vasantha Kumari, both agricultural labourers.
Chitra hit controversy after the Athletic Federation of India rejected her entry into World Athletic Meet 2017 in London. She then approached the Kerala High Court that ruled in favour of her inclusion, but was kept out after cutoff time lapsed.
