Man assaulted for RTI inquiry on rich families with BPL cards : Kasaragod

Kasaragod : A man who sought information under RTI act, on six well-off families holding Below Poverty Line(BPL) cards in the neighbourhood, was thrashed and strangled by their family members.

TV Narayanan, a native of Velaswaram, was victim of attack in Kanhangad on Thursday.

The families, he referred to in the application, had house, car and families working in gulf. Narayanan sought to challenge Ajanur panchayat’s sanction of BPL cards to the ostensibly rich householders.

Post the attack, Narayanan filed a complaint with Hosdurg police station after seeking treatment in the civil hospital there.

The RTI application was submitted on 6 September, but no response has been forthcoming so far, he said.

The Ajanur panchayat secretary Y Shajahan has meanwhile denied allegations about leaking the victim’s RTI move.
