Sabarimala : Pandalam royals and tantris boycott discussions; Govt to proceed with Verdict

Thiruvananthapuram : The tantris(higher priests) and Pandalam royals preferred to stay away from conciliation meeting called by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan this morning.

With attempt to reach consensus foiled, the government and Devaswom Board authorities said  they are proceeding with implementing the apex court order

Sabarimala tantri kandararu Mohanararu said they decided against the meeting after Pandalam palace signaled it’s unwillingness.

According to sources, the hesitation stems from CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s announcement that the meeting was aimed at implementing the verdict rather than reach consensus.

The decision to boycott Monday meeting came about after detailed consultation with NSS – an influential cultural body of the Hindu Nairs.

What has irked Hindu’s in the state is refusal on govt part to file a review petition as also it’s stand in the apex court that, all women may be allowed to visit Sabarimala.

Widespread protests have been staged for days after  Supreme Court recently ordered that the famed temple of Sabarimala should allow women of all ages to come on pilgrimage there. The ruling upturns age-old tradition that bars women between 10 – 50 years of age from visiting the shrine.
