Gold near highest in over two months as markets get jittery

Gold on Friday held near a two-month high as shaky stock markets boosted the metal’s safe-haven appeal.

Spot gold ws down 0.2 percent at $1,221.06 an ounce. Yesterday’s rout in equities saw the metal jump about 2.5 pecent after marking its highest since July 32 at $1,226.27.

Asian shares meanwhile held steady on Friday after a nine-day losing streak. However overall sentiments are weak given Wall Street crumbling and worries about economic impact of the China US trade war.
