In the latest twist to nepotism story surrounding KT Jaleel, a woman who physically left nowhere from her Malappuram home, is being shelled out Rs 17,000 in monthly wages for working at the minister’s house as gardener.
The ghost appointment came to light in a reply sought through RTI asking who receives the payment.
The woman’s husband, a Janata Dal leader, asserted that his wife is at their home in Thozhuvanur, and does not work anywhere. The man is Jaleel’s friend and is on KSRTC Board of Directors.
Neighbours in Malappuram also insisted that the woman did not go any place to work.
The RTI document says woman works as garden attendant at Jaleel’s official residence Ganga. The Tourism department makes the payment regularly, though it is not clear who really gets the amount.
Incidentally, there are two persons actually doing the job. In understandable cover-up for master, they said the woman worked there and was on leave now.
However they fumbled answering when she left on leave or when she was expected to return.
The blow-up will add to Jaleel’s headache, who is already under fire for nepotism.
He is accused of appointing his cousin Adeep KT as general manager in Kerala State Minorities Development Finance Corporation, flouting rules – an allegation he denies.
Jaleel is second minister to be caught up in nepotism storm. In Oct 2016, just five months of assuming power, then Industries minister EP Jayarajan resigned faced with similar charge.
Jayarajan was reinstated in August this year after, the vigilance and anti-corruption bureau, which probed the case, gave him a clean chit.
